JRC Workshop on Bioenergy & Bioeconomy, Status & Perspectives

The JRC international workshop on Bioenergy and Bioeconomy was held on 16-18 December 2015 in Kibbutz Hagoshrim, Galilee, Israel. The event was organized by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and MIGAL Galilee Research Institute, and gathered participants from Israel, Netherlands, Italy, Albania, Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia and Portugal.

The following topics were presented and discussed during the workshop:

  • Bioenergy, Bioeconomy & innovation Policies, cooperation between research, industry and SMEs, role of public support mechanisms 
  • Green Bioenergy &Biogas production from different agro-sources
  • Integrated use of biomass resources for bioenergy and/or food,  and biomaterials
  • Environmental impact assessment of the collection & use of waste and/or residues for bioenergy use, especially regarding the impact on soil & water,
  • Waste management

This Workshop addressed international cooperation in the field of bioenergy and bioeconomy and included also round-table discussions, aiming at enhancing scientific collaboration. Following the presentations and round-table discussions, a study-tour was held to the wastewater treatment plant at “Dalton Winery”, to “Amiad Filtration Systems" and to the Shafdan Complex of MEKOROT.
