MIGAL - Galilee Research Institute

MIGAL - Galilee Research Institute

MIGAL, founded in 1979, is a regional research institute situated at the Galilee. Its founders recognized the great potential benefits to all residents of the region in promoting research and establishing infrastructure in life, natural, environmental and agricultural sciences. MIGAL had identified biotechnology as the best platform for the majority of the Institute’s scientific and academic activities. This has been implemented and expressed both in the absorption of new young scientists, educated and trained in the modern biotechnology era, develop several spin-offs in the region, and in the deep involvement in the establishment and continuous development of the academic School for Biotechnology, in the nearby Tel-Hai College. In addition, MIGAL is very much involved in developing the economy of the Galilee and is taking part in developing the strategy for regional innovation, foresight for the Galilee, and in helping industries in the region to develop contacts with European companies and institutions, as well as guiding entities in the subject of IPR and know-how acquisition and negotiations with companies from abroad. MIGAL helped to established several clusters (mainly interdisciplinary). MIGAL had several projects at the FP4, FP5 and FP6 programmes, some of scientific character and some with the economic and regional aspects. The involvement in the diverse community of the Galilee, with people immigrating from all countries, as well as Arab and Druze population, made MIGAL an important key for assimilation of immigrants.
